Growing Out

I think my fringe has gotten to a point where it's beginning to annoy me and this is usually about the time that a new trim is due out of frustration with the fact that it'll take a million years to grow out. But this time I won't give in. I don't think I can actually recall the last time I successfully grew my fringe out since all I can really remember is having a fringe practically my whole life. I know many of us girls who have had fringes for years tend to just keep cutting once they're too long to either keep that same hairstyle we have or purely because of impatience. I must say that even now I'm struggling to keep my mind occupied from thinking too much about how my hair looks like in the mirror without wailing over how boring and useless my fringe has become. My goal right now is to grow it out so I can experiment different styles that I otherwise couldn't achieve with side sweeps or blunt cuts. At the moment I've been surviving with bobby pins and little girls teeth clips that I found lying around from when I was much younger. Pinning them back really does help with the waiting process since I'm at ease when it comes to styling it. I'm not entirely sure how long this will last, but I do hope it does.

On another note, knowing Melbourne, our heritage stands in small buildings or museums that are open to the public. We don't have ruins or ghost towns as the infrastructure continues to develop. But there is this one place that is yet to be turned into something new as if it never existed at all. There was nothing seedy about the place. Just walls and buildings filled with empty spray cans and walls covered in graffiti. I've seen pictures posted of this place and thought to visit. The cardboard on the windows give a rather echoing bang against the window panes and the pigeons coo only adds to the thrill of their flapping wings. There were shadows and shade and right in the middle, some of the roof has probably caved in over time, but even just standing there, it felt like an urban atmosphere.

Lady Crush: Sarah Paulson

It's remarkable how we can become emotionally attracted to a certain character who is none like ourselves as we begin to consume their lives slowly and vicariously within the four walls of a much smaller screen to our own lives. Recently becoming an American Horror Story fanatic, I've been well-absorbed by the intelligently filmed series of brilliant creators, producers, directors and most importantly; the actors to convey their characters so perfectly. I find the different plot lines in each season rather creative and the hard working people who put it together have to be complete geniuses to come out with these intense series of different aspects to horror films in merely such a small show. My admiration grew very quickly towards Lana Winters in Asylum. A persistent journalist who becomes much too interested in a case which lands her a whole season of trouble. Despite her endless run-ins with tragedy and evil, I think she is probably the best and strongest most optimistic protagonist I've seen on TV lately. I felt like the whole season was a long thriller with her in it. I won't mention any spoilers but the creators know their eras down pat. The props and costumes, fashion and hair. Character development is well interpreted by the actors too and I'm still just impressed at how quickly my mood would shift according to their circumstances. If I were to re-watch the season, I'd screen shot my Lana favourites because besides the fact that she wears the same rags throughout the season, as a reporter, her dresses, suits, jackets and hair still gets me rather jealous. I'll admit. I'm obsessed.

Season 2 Premiere

Anniversaries are one of those very special occasions which I'm assuming everyone plans ahead for in order to have a lovely day planned and see itself timed perfectly. I felt like we were given a free 'cheesy pass' for the day so we had quite a few awkward moments directing different poses and trying not to cringe at all the cheesiness. The day before was another 40+ degree day and I was dreading that it would be our fate but the breeze was cool and the sun shone much too brightly in our eyes so we were blessed with graceful weather down at Pipemakers where we usually are. I'm pretty sure we were struggling to avoid mosquitos most of the time in-between compliments and repositioning.
In advance, we booked a table for two at the Brooks of Melbourne and they have given us every reason to return as the service and the staff were wonderful, the place was warmly lit and the presentation of the food was outstanding, each dish was delicious and as for the portions, they were enough to suffice you for the rest of the night. I have no idea how I could describe the artistry of their dishes since the mixes were foreign for me and rather baffling but they complimented each other perfectly. I had been looking forward to their Forest Floor desert since peeping the menu weeks ago and it was adorably presented with a remarkable resemblance exactly that of a whimsical forest floor. It reminded me of when I used to pretend fairies would be sleeping in the mushrooms in our grass when I was younger. I highly recommend their restaurant to anyone who is looking for a place to wine and dine or try their lunch menu which I'm considering for next time. I do hope you enjoy the pictures as much as we did and perhaps cringed a few times too. It sure was a wonderful day, start to finish.

Weekly Roundup Favourites #2

In the past week I haven't been using my laptop lately but when I did, I was on the biggest DIY whim.
There were so many more that I couldn't link since I used my phone mostly for Instagram and Pinterest.

Weekly Roundup Favourites #1

It's the first Sunday of the year and I thought I'd start weekly round-ups of my favourite posts and pages which I've visited during the week. Looking back on my week actually helps me reflect on all the different things I thought and felt and were inspired by. This week I found a beautifully fragile dessert that I stumbled upon whilst looking for tips and techniques on starting terrarium making. I also read a feature post of a newly-wedded couple in their heart-warming christmas photoshoot. I completely admire Elizabeth's room tour on her blog with all her interior in their glory and not to mention, her cute little Korgi, posing in the pictures. I revisited Erica's post, showing off her lovely baby bump in a nautical attire and I still wish she'd post up a tutorial on her hairdo which she rocks so well. I enjoyed Rebecca's room tour even though I too am not a fan of pink but the colour scheme seemed to radiate off my screen with her quirky little bits n' bops. Since summer is 'sort of' here, I quite like the sound of drinks and summer food for gatherings with friends and though I don't drink, even the drinks looked rather delicious to stare at. Two of my favourite Instagramers finally made a blog! I'm super excited for them and I can't wait for the future of their blog because I am in awe of their gorgeous day to day frocks and to say the truth, rather envious too. And lastly, this collection truly reminds me of Bewitched even though she's clearly channeling little miss Drew in her collar and her cape.

Coming Back

Originally, this was meant to be a guest post only Peter isn't quite fluent with blogging and so I am left to finish off this post which he has already started by picking his shots from yesterday. I do agree with the fact that it has been a while since we took a stroll through Pipemakers and now that Summer is sort-of here, I've remembered how flies and mosquitos were such a nuisance last summer. It was quite refreshing to see how seasonal this place can be. As Peter pointed out, it never looks the same. We were actually trying to collect a handful of flowers that I can start pressing which by the way I have completed as they are well stored in a cool area inside my mama bird's heavy pathiophysio therapy books I've piled on each other. I can't wait to see how they turn out even though I have been warned that if I'm to keep some sort of diary for them, it'd be tedious when I don't have a flower dictionary or know some of my flora already. So I must idly stare at my screen until I figure out a much easier way to search for their names besides googling them by colour. 2014 is starting off so well for me as my family is sitting at a peaceful (enough) place with each other, the dogs smell fruity and Sampson no longer smells at all.

Cheers, New Years

Happy new year everybody!

Pretty New Things

Now that the new year has begun and the resolutions are taking action, I have recently written down my 2014 bucket list which I might post about later. 2013 was a year of love and creativity and this year, I'm going to try and branch off my creativity in channeling much more prettier/girlier things like pressing flowers. I bought a floral diary from a gift card my best friend gave me for christmas and I think all the pretty illustrations just inspire me to be more creative and add to the list of things I like to do. Since doodling is not my mastering plan, no one can go wrong with enclosing pretty coloured petals in a book for a week or two. This gives me a reason to get to know my flowers a little bit better.
