Modify A Dress Tutorial (kinda)

Here is the result of a few dresses which I had already modified. I was originally going to post a written tutorial as well as a video but my father seemed to have "accidentally" deleted the pictures off the camera. Tomorrow, I would have hopefully posted an outfit tutorial. Enjoy this and the video below!

Project II [50s Dress]

It's probably been a year since I've posted one of these projects of mine and within that time frame I believe I've had many I haven't documented. It's official that I am now on Christmas holidays [although I have been for a week now] which means that  I could quite possibly have more time to be crafty and blog, unless of course I am somewhat invited to do other productive activities with friends.

This is Mother. She was invited to a family friend's wedding which was actually more like a 'renewal of vowels' and it was 50s themed. I was quite excited for this since 50s is probably my favourite era and if I were to pick when I was born, it was be late 30s to early 40s just so I could enjoy my youth in the 50s. My mum isn't one to allow people to touch her as much but when she consented me to do her hair and make-up, I was completely over-joyed but I also promised i'd keep it as simple as possible. I also made the dress for her even though she'll only ever wear it once. I'll probably end up resizing it later so that wit would fit me.

Carving Pumpkins Would Have Been Nice

Photobucket

The only good excuse I have to celebrate Halloween is because my birthdate seems to have fallen on such a frowned-upon occasion. But because I can still have the freedom to celebrate however I like, Mother agreed that a costume dress up party would have been a great idea. All thanks to Mother for the decore around the house, we didn't end up purchasing a pumpkin because it was much too expensive for something that would only be used as decoration for one night and then discarded and thrown in the compost. But she did an amzing job. But rebel of me to have a party a day before an exam. This is the second party I've had, one previous with my school and church friends. They made my night amazing and it was the best thing ever. But this next one was spent with my family and the Aunts, Uncles and Cousins who I'm really close to. I love how everyone had put effort into their costume, all the sewing and creative effort they had put into theirs was inspiring.

If you haven't already guessed who I decided to dress up as, I felt being nothing like Blue and red seemed very appealing. Luckily at place I work, our material is really cheap and so I had made myself a caped hood out of scratch. I used crushed panne for it and at the moment I'm loving, panne, velvet and suede. The feel and appearance of the heavenly material has been so greatful to me. Then I added a ribbon to my cape to finish it off.

My aunty had a ball, having my dad capture all her silly shots doing crazy things and stealing bits and pieces of another person's costume. I don't have pictures for now but if I have time I'll see if I can post them up on my
Facebook.

2 more exams to go until I am free from any type of school activity, and I'm quite glad to announce that as soon as it turns 11:15am on Thursday, I would have officially finished Psychology and I will never have to touch on that ever again. Life is being great.
Look out for some new changes to The Little Quirks because I'll be having all the time on my hands to take outfit pictures and blog. Also, I will be annoucing quite soon what my ambitions for my holidays and for next year will be.

DIY: Highwaisted Shorts

Photobucket

Excuse the mix of warm tones and normal modes. I was in a hurry to take pictures to post up. Also, my apologies for the bad pose for the result picture of the shorts. It's horrific. I shall get a better one up soon...maybe?
So I was inspired to make myself shorts out of used pants that didn't look so good as pants anyways. It was really easy and I'll show you how I did it to mine.

Photobucket

Materials needed:
- Opp-shopped pair of pants or one of your old pairs (preferably 1 or 2 sizes smaller so they raise up a little)
- Sewing machine (or you could do it by hand if that pleases you more)
- Scissors
- Spool of thread
- Pins
- Washable marker
- Ruler

Method:
1) Measure the length that you wish to alter your clothing to with the washable marker.

Photobucket

2) Draw a line at least 1 inch from your wanted measurement from outer to inner parts of the pants. Pin the leg together so that when you cut along the line, it will be all even. Cut along the line.

Photobucket

3) Turn inside-out and pin the bottom to make the hem evenly.

Photobucket

4) Sew it down. You can have whatever thickness of the hem you like.

Photobucket

5) Try them on and I'm sure they're ready to use out!

Photobucket

Here's my end result. Excuse me once again for the horrible tones that indoor pictures gave me. Like I said, I was in a rush. But I'm pretty happy with my new pair of shorts.

Project I [Introductory]

Photobucket

Naming my post by Roman Numeric's is something you would rarely see as I was not taught properly in primary school. Guess I'll have to learn now so excuse me if I do get the numbers wrong.
I'm introducing a new part to my blog which will consist of my projects that I carefully make myself. I'm still all new to the sewing thing but I'm sure I'll learn. These holidays have been so fun for me because I have been able to finish off quite a few of them. This first one is my favourite of the bunch from these holidays because it is the first dress I've ever made! I wore it to Max Brenner's the other night when I was out with my fellow Kidmania Leaders. I would have posted sooner but my close friend had made an utter niusence of herself and threw chocolate fondu on my colar. That's alright, I still love her and though my dress was completely new, I forgive her.

There are many visible faults on this dress, and I do remind it is the first one that I've made so don't throw a hissy fit at me. I know the colar is too big, and the dress is too short, and sleeve ends weren't sewn properly, but I'm still very happy at the result. I laugh at the fact that I made sooo many mistakes on this dress that I used up 3 whole spools of thread when 1 is only needed! It was so much fun and I am thinking of making another one before these holidays come to an end.
