FilmNeverDie Cafe

I'm not a coffee person but I can surely appreciate the art of it and if there's one thing Melbourne is known for, quality coffee would be high up on the list. The CBD is filled with cafes at every corner competing to be the best of the best. I was at FilmNeverDie Cafe when I really should have been completing assignments but spending time somewhere that has been built up upon a community of not only coffee lovers but photography enthusiasts and hobbyists was so much more appealing. Gary started FilmNeverDie as a small shop in the back of his garage, alluring different photographers and newbies to a small but varied world of  film photography with a wide range of 35mm, medium and large format cameras. Since then, he's opened up his own cafe on Bourke street as a collaboration with Magnet gallery (formally Photonet) and Hunter Studio as a space for all sorts of creatives.

REVIEW: JUJU MENSTRUAL CUP (WARNING - GRAPHICALLY WRITTEN FOR GIRLS ONLY)

It's not often you come across a review like this, or at least not on my blog. Periods suck and it seems like an unfortunate taboo that women have to live with which is a real shame as it is only a normal occurrence that usually happens every month for most girls. Sure, there are plenty of embarrassing stories we can share but in the end, they're just slip ups during the monthly pain we all have to endure. In this review, I'll be talking about what the benefits of this cup are and how I feel after I have used them. I'll also give you a run down on how they work so yes, keep reading if you want to know how it works or if you're just interested in the idea. Otherwise, this post might not be for you, but in any case, enjoy reading about my experience!

LET'S TALK ABOUT LASHES. PART 1

I've been wanting to make this post for a long while now but I never knew how I'd go about talking lashes. I wanted to break this into two parts; the first being my experiences and my favourite products; and the second being a tutorial on how to put them on with ease. No matter how old we first start, beginners will always find a hard time with them.

Remington Hot Rollers

I feel rather strange coming back to do a quick review on something I've had for almost a month now. Although I haven't exactly got anything I've come 'back from', I still haven't been here to post in a while. Mind you, it's also been over a month since uni has started and learning to organise myself around that has been quite the task but that is of course for another post about uni.
So I got my hands on the Remington Silk Ceramic hot rollers from Myer ($67.95) which came with individual clips. What drove me to want to have my own? Well, I'm still trying to figure that out myself. I had a conversation with my mamabird about how rollers will remind me of my late Tita Ella as she always had them in her hair. Just the plastic ones. She had short hair and her rollers came in different colours and skinny sizes. And so I know this was a super retro idea, but yes, that was partially why I thought about it and also because I'm trying to grow my hair out so I've been wanting to play around with some more vintage hair dos. There were a couple I had in mind to purchase but it was not until I saw this particular set on a few online reviews that I only wanted just that. There was another Remington one I was considering as it was within the budget I was looking for since my hair straightener/curlers (when being replaced every 4 or 5 years) usually cost around $40, but right next to it, VS Sasoon had a prettier box that came with velvet rollers, clips and a retractable cord. I figured that I should purchase the one with velvet since I thought that would be better for grip with mildly short hair but I chose my Remington set because each roller came with its own clip whereas the Vidal Sasoon one comes with a few super clips and then the rest are wire ones which I wasn't keen on. However, they still looked like a rather beautiful set and I have heard some great reviews on them.
Now, trying these out first was quite tricky. It didn't look messy but it did take me a while to place them and my fingers felt tender by the end. I'm still getting used to it and as far as time goes, it really only takes me 10 minutes or so to put them in which is just an absolute blessing when it comes to getting dressed and preparing my face. I don't actually use it for curls but for soft vintage waves and so I usually just brush my hair out completely with a paddle brush after taking them out. I do apologise for the lack of images I could have shown you but I suppose those will go up soon.

I also bought this set because with other sets, the rollers stand upright but I thought my ones just look so pretty lying on their sides with their clips attached. I do like the clips. I wish they had teeth, but they warm up along with the curlers so you have the extra heat around your hair when they're settling. But when I do have them heating for quite some time, I tend to have a small cloth or clean face towel beside me to cling the clips onto while I'm curling the rollers into my hair so that they don't somehow stick/melt to each other in case. I love this set. I love anything by Remington. I believe they are high-end quality and affordable. I do hope you enjoyed the review :)

Be Compulsive

I'm not going to lie... I've been so curious and rather anxious to try another bath bomb and bubble bar. So I did. I think constant trips to Lush to buy bath products might just be a thing for me this winter. I was soaked up smelling really sweet while the steam helped me savour my warm surroundings. I used the really cutely shaped Space Girl bath ballistic and paired that lovely fruity scented bomb with the soothing and quite relaxing creamy blackberry Mini Comforter bubble bar. Gosh, how am I still enjoying this so far? I'm glad I still have some of each bubble bar left so I can use it for the next week. But I really need to keep my baths to a maximum of once a week but this Lush temptation just isn't helping me. I haven't even tried a bath melt which goodness knows I want to try too. I think the key to finding the best bath products is to just smell them. I mean, that's if you're not allergic to any of their ingredients, otherwise... I condone the act of compulsive buying of products that smell and feel that good.

I'm In Here

A very touching and personal song written by Sia for her album called We Are Born.

It's very seldom to find such songs filled with deep emotion such as this. Her voice is completely unique and listening to this song could make me cry over and over again!

Bewitched

Australian TV has decided to reintroduce the greatest classic shows on our GO! channel. The one that I have currently been watching the most is Bewitched, starring Elizabeth Montgomery. It's usually on every morning and on just when I get home from school. It's now probably up to Season Eight and I'm assuming it's the last one. I don't want to think about not having this show aired anymore because I just love how Montgomery portrays Samantha on the show. Watching it at least twice a day, I have seen her transformation since Season One and I must say that her hair is what changes the most. My mum shares the same love for this show and we watch it together when she gets home from work. She tells me that Elizabeth Montgomery was one of the world's most beautiful women in those days and heck I bet she was. She's absolutely gorgeous and her humour is just so comical.

What I love watching the most with my mum is looking at her wardrobe choice for the set in every Episode. She looks so darling and sweet. Not a very typical housemother as such were in those day, but then again I do believe that's the point as she's not exactly ordinary, hence herself being a witch.

I think this is when Ebay usually starts to appeal to me again so I can buy my mother and I box sets of each season. Every episode just excites us every time.

Tremble Little Lion Man

My first pay went to buying myself a CD and a pair of braces [or suspenders...or however you would like to name them]. I was planning to buy and try a few more CD's which were way beyond what I listen to, and I probably wouldn't understand any of it [you better know what I'm talking about]. There was so much more that I felt an impulse to buy, but thankfully my conscience and self-control formed an awesome duo and saved me hundreds on that day. Ever since I got payed, my bank has just been abundantly flowing with mula and I'm so thankful. But I've been feeling a tad generous lately and I don't know who I should shout or buy something for. Is that bad?

Well anyways, Mumford & Sons has a brought a different spice to mymusic liking. Most of the songs, for some reason, remind me of The Lord of The Rings because of the music they play at hobitown and also because of the similarities in their accents. The album sounds like folk, bluegrass, country with a bit of alternative in the two singer's voices. It's incredible, and they're all talented as they change their instruments of choice to play with from song-to-song. I don't recall much the sound of an electric guitar in their songs except when they use a violin bow to play it, nor is there a drum because most of the beat is just footwork and they all sing and harmonize to the melody and the mixture of the bouble bass and madolins is just so lovely.
Too many songs to pick from but here's a youtube link to their new hit, Little Lion Man.

You Think It's Only God Who Sees The Soul

Dorian Gray: [as he observes his portrait] How sad...
Lord Harry Wotton: What? What do you mean?
Dorian Gray: How sad it is... That I shall grow old, but this picture
will remain always young. My hair will turn gray, my skin will
wrinkle, and my teeth will rot. While my picture remains exactly as
it is now. If only it were the other way...
Lord Harry Wotton: Dorian...
Dorian Gray: If it were I who would remain always young and the
picture would grow old. For that, I would give everything...
Lord Harry Wotton: Dorian...
Dorian Gray: Yes, everything! For that... I would even give my soul.
Basil Hallward: [smirks and raises his glass] To long life.

I've recently become quite fond of Benjamin Barne's physical attractiveness. Finally getting my hands on an illegal copy of this movie has been very rewarding for his good looks seem to lack of nothing. Although the explicit nature of his character in Dorian Gray becomes an unfortunate turn-off, the movie wasn't all that bad. Well besides the inappropraite scenes of his most pleasured moments with both genders.
I wouldn't enjoy ruining the whole movie for you but I'm so tempted to post it here.
Dorian Gray's character portrays a naive pre-adult who seems to lust for eternal youth, reversing roles with his portrait. The satisfaction of living forever young has brought him through trials of love, guilt and power. Confiding in Lord Harry's advice has lead him to be the man whom Harry wanted to be but did not persue. Of course, irreversible consquences had taken place as the result of Dorian's conceited behaviour. This movie ended tragically, and though some must not think it all great. But I loved it.

Dissect One And Put Mascara On The Other

Photobucket

During the week that had just past, Pinky brought over some of his baby bunnies, his brother and an Australian feel good film. I wouldn't say that The Rage In Placid Lake was scantily made but I guess it almost had the same qualities as Napoleon Dynamite. I'm not going to review the whole storyline, I'm just going to focus on the main characters of the movie in a short paragraph. Placid Lake whom by the way has THE most ridiculous name in the world had never really lived a normal life; unique in his own way and always breaching the line, until he joins an insurance company and embarks on a journey to a "normal life". Placid and his bestfriend Gemma Taylor have had a peculiar relationship together and Placid soon realises he wants to pursue a proper relationship with her. Placid and Gemma are such a quirky couple; Placid being open-minded and having brilliant ideas - the nerd who constantly gets battered for being different and Gemma who is the smartest of the duo, only ever being exposed to the interests of her father who influences her decision to become a scientist.

One more thing that I wanted to make note of is Rose Byrne's [Gemma Taylor] wardrobe for the set of The Rage In Placid Lake. I didn't have much luck finding pictures of the movie which had a full body view of what she wears. But The cute vintage cut of her clothes are just adorable. In the second picture with the white blouse, she wears coral shorts and she pulls off the look so well. In the picture above, Rose's dress reminds me of Shop Ruche's Paint The Roses Blue Dress though in blue. There's something about floral print that attracts me, especially when it comes to cute pastel coloured dresses.
In my last picture Rose wears a checkered smock which is simply alluring. The vintage style that I don't believe would ever grow old in any pattern you would wish to choose.
